Meditation practice

Meditation involves a gradual process of bringing the awareness of soul back to one’s self.

Our aim is to feel the subtle energy of the inner self and to increase the power that this awareness brings. By subtle, we mean refined, not gross, not worldly or physical. If you practise this awareness you are able to create a sense of detachment as if you are an observer of events around you. But you remain unaffected as if you are watching them pass by. Clarity starts to develop.

The more detachment you experience, simultaneously the more happiness increases. This is sometimes referred to as super sensuous joy (a happiness beyond the senses). It’s like a bird letting go of the branch and flying. This is the process of awakening to the awareness of “who am I?” It is the early stage of recognition of the self. As this simple process is repeated over and over again, it forms the basis of our power of concentration. Familiarity with this experience creates in us a pure desire to immerse ourselves further. Our ability to relinquish wasteful and negative thoughts becomes easier with each sitting.

Our feelings are transformed and start to take on a more peaceful and harmonious nature. You can notice that conflicting thoughts have subsided and are replaced by good wishes for others. You become less critical in your thoughts and now, feelings of kindness and benevolence can flow through you.

Everything about this experience speaks of choice. “I am the master of my self and the subtle energies of mind, intellect and sub-conscious”. Allowing time in my busy day to stop and repeat this reflective process empowers me. I am able to maintain extended periods of inner calm in a variety of difficult situations now with less effort.
