The Power of imagination
…is a wonderful thing. It’s the core of creativity. There’s fluidity of thought…uninhibited, a bit like dreams. The question is when to put a stop or recognize what is imagination and what is real. There seems to be a soft border between imagination and reality sometimes. It becomes especially difficult to negotiate when there are strong emotions involved. Thinking too much and thinking too hard. Imagination can inspire and move us forward in so many interesting ways. It can help us to move beyond problems and think of possibilities that logic just can’t do. Its an energy that moves us with enthusiasm. Its the power of the mind put to full use. But even a genie needs to be guided. A time and place for all things. Above all it should be used for a beneficial task in the creation of something good. It is after all just another tool in the creator’s box.
The image above ‘Attack of the one-legged robot’ is part of a series of ‘garden’ photos. As such it’s not a record of what was in the garden - it’s an interpretation. A well worn quotation in the world of photography comes from Minor White - “One does not photograph something simply for 'what it is', but 'for what else it is”.
